Pri Paw is a 20-year old college student who came to Utica about five years ago. Last year was the first year she joined the Karen Don Dance group and performed at four New Years festivals, but she has been involved in other traditional Karen dancing since her childhood in a Thai refugee camp. She is an excellent student and completed high school in Utica and graduated with honors. She is interested in pursuing a career in the health field. She is very pleased about her participation in the Don dance group and has made many new friends. She would like to maintain her cultural traditions and share them with the elders in her community who sometimes feel lonely and isolated, especially during the cold CNY winters. She wants to continue learning about the stories that are sung in the Don dances in the United States, and how they differ from the ones sung in Burma fifty years ago and longer.
